Rapid PCR Test Las Vegas | Same Day Results
October 25, 2022
COVID-19 might not be affecting the world today as much as it once was in 2020, but that doesn’t mean it’s not out there. Whether you’re spending a long weekend in the hustling and bustling city of Las Vegas, NV, or preparing to meet travel requirements, you want to make sure that your health is in top shape.
Traditional COVID tests can take days to show results, but rapid tests can get you results in as little as 15 minutes. But if you think you have COVID, you don’t want to leave your home and risk infecting others at the doctor’s office or convenience store.
The good news is that you can now get same-day results without ever leaving the comfort of your home or hotel room. Here is everything you need to know about Rapid PCR testing.
What Is Rapid PCR Testing?
COVID-19 is caused by the coronavirus SARS-CoV-2. Symptoms of COVID-19 can look different for everyone, but most commonly, they present as sore throat, fever, cough, shortness of breath, muscle aches, fatigue, congestion, loss of taste or smell, or chills.
COVID-19 is highly contagious, so frequent testing is important to ensure you’re not infecting the population. The problem is that since traditional COVID-19 tests can take days to show results, you might not even be infected by the time results show.
This is where rapid PCR tests can shine.
PCR tests are considered the gold standard of COVID testing because this test type detects genetic material in your DNA that is specific to the virus. This means it can detect an active infection even if you aren’t showing physiological symptoms, such as during the incubation period. This differs from a rapid antigen test or a NAAT test, which detects protein fragments specific to the coronavirus. While antigen or molecular test results are much quicker, they tend to be less accurate.
A rapid PCR test combines the technology of a rapid diagnostic test and a PCR test to bring you accurate, quick COVID-19 test results. Demand for these tests is high, and you usually need to go to a special clinic or testing site to gain access to these tests.
However, rapid PCR testing is now available directly inside your home, thanks to The IV Doc.

What Should I Expect During My COVID Test?
Nasal swab tests are quick and easy, but it’s normal to feel nervous before your first one. At the IV Doc, we use anterior nasal swabs to test for COVID.
With these, we’ll ask you to blow your nose to clear out any mucus in the nose beforehand. From there, we will gently insert a nasal swab into one nostril. It might feel uncomfortable for just a few seconds as we twirl the swab around to collect a sample, but this feeling will only last about 10 seconds in each nostril.
After that, we will use a device to test the ends of the swab for COVID particles. You can expect your results in as little as 15 minutes.
What Do My COVID Results Mean?
If you get a positive COVID reading from your test, you are currently infected with the coronavirus. Note that this doesn’t necessarily mean that you are contagious. The CDC suggests that you are infectious for around 10 days after experiencing symptoms. With that said, you can still test positive for days or weeks after the isolation period.
This might also be a rare circumstance known as a false positive test, which means you tested positive without actually having the disease. This is very uncommon, but is more likely with rapid COVID-19 tests as opposed to traditional PCR tests. If you get a false positive test but are certain you don’t have COVID, it’s recommended that you get a PCR test to supplement.
A negative test result means you are not infected with the coronavirus. However, false negative tests are possible. This occurs when you do have COVID-19, though the test results indicate otherwise. As a rule of thumb, if you have symptoms of COVID-19 despite testing negative, it’s a good idea to isolate yourself from others to prevent the spread of the disease.
Once your symptoms improve, an antibody test can confirm whether or not you had COVID.
What Should I Do If I Test Positive?
If you test positive for COVID-19, the most important thing to do is stay calm. Most cases of coronavirus are mild, and you will probably start to feel better in just a few days.
In order to protect those around you, contact a contact tracing office so they can reach out to friends and colleagues you may have been around within the past few days. Be sure to let them know about every public location you’ve been recently to ensure that everyone you were near can get tested to stay safe.
The only thing that cures COVID is time, but you can manage the symptoms by getting lots of rest, drinking hot tea to soothe your throat, and drinking lots of fluids.
If you begin to feel severe symptoms of COVID, including trouble breathing, chest pain, confusion, or inability to stay awake, contact a local emergency room to get help.
